Traverse City Film Festival 2012 Puts Michigan in the Spotlight (July 23, 2012) Returning to her home state, Hollywood superstar Kristen Bell will visit Traverse City to present a special sneak preview of her new film “Hit and Run.” The festival opens on July 31 with “Searching for Sugar Man,” a powerful documentary about a Detroit singer-songwriter whose music fueled an anti-apartheid movement a continent away. Detroit is beautifully showcased in the sweet “The Giant Mechanical Man” starring Jenna Fisher, and many other Michigan movies are scheduled for this year’s festival.
2012 Traverse City Film Festival Schedule Announced (June 29, 2012) Traverse City Film Festival (TCFF founder Michael Moore has announced the line-up for the 2012 edition of the festival, now in its eighth year, to be held July 31 to August 5. This year’s festival will feature more movie choices than ever before. Over 100 films have been hand-selected by Michael Moore.

Traverse City Film Festival Brings a Record 100 Filmmakers to 7th Annual Fest with Assistance from Grant from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (July 22, 2011) With help from a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, over 100 guests have been confirmed for the seventh annual Traverse City Film Festival (TCFF), including Kevin Clash, the puppeteer behind international superstar Elmo; award-winning actor Matthew Modine; and actor, filmmaker, and Traverse City Comedy Festival co-founder Jeff Garlin.
U-M renews partnership with Traverse City Film Festival (July 21, 2011) For the second consecutive year, the University of Michigan has formed an educational partnership with the Traverse City Film Festival. The collaboration calls for U-M faculty from the school’s screen arts department to serve as jurors for short and feature films, and documentaries. In addition, the festival will once again offer a public venue for the premiere screening of two short films by U-M film students.

Kids Fest Announced (July 21, 2011) The TCFF Kids Fest launches this year from Wednesday, July 27, through Sunday, July 31, on the beautiful lawn outside the newly renovated Lars Hockstad Auditorium. Families are invited to enjoy daily $1 family films at 9 am, and to join our gigantic Family Lawn Party outside from 10 am to 2 pm, rain or shine.

This summer’s Traverse City Film Festival will feature some movies made in a style you may never have heard about. The style is called “mumblecore.”
July 22, 2009 Child Care Want to see some movies at this year’s Traverse City Film Festival but don’t have a sitter? No problem! The Montessori Children’s House can get you one better — licensed child care at their location on W. Long Lake Road. The school is accepting reservations online and by phone for children ages 3-12, with availability daily during the festival, July 29 through Aug. 2. “A couple of years ago we offered child care at our school for the film festival and had a pretty decent response from people who were from out of town,” said Development Director Missy Russell. “We had pretty good feedback from the parents, and it was fun for the kids.” Plans are to occupy the children with activities and projects so they won’t even miss their parents.
